Gentian violet is a dye used as a medicine to treat fungal infections and wounds:
Fungal Infections:
Gentian violet is an antifungal for skin, nail, and mouth infections such as canker sores, ringworm, and athlete’s foot.
Wounds:
Gentian violet has antiseptic-coagulant properties that make it useful for treating wounds, ulcers, burns, and raw surfaces.
Application:
A small amount of gentian violet tincture can be applied to the affected area 1-3 times a day. It can be applied to clean skin or oral mucosa.
Precautions:
Gentian violet stains the skin, but the stain washes out over time. To avoid staining clothing, it is recommended to wait for it to dry before dressing.
Duration of Treatment:
It is recommended to use gentian violet for 3 days in a row. If symptoms do not improve or worsen after this time, a doctor should be consulted.
Warnings and Precautions: Stop use and ask a physician if: Redness irritation- swelling- pain persists or increases- infection, rash, or irritation occurs.
