An oil emulsion wound dressing is a primary medical dressing made of an open-mesh, knitted fabric uniformly coated with a petrolatum oil emulsion. It prevents the dressing from sticking to healing tissue, minimizes pain during changes, and maintains a moist environment to speed up recovery. Because it is non-occlusive, it allows wound fluid (exudate) to pass easily through into a secondary absorbent dressing.
- Non-Adherent: It does not stick to granulating tissue, reducing skin trauma and pain when removed.
